Quarantine House Attendance Check

Hello!

So, it's been a few days since I posted a blog. That's because everything went crazy for me.

Somehow, my amazing coworkers saw fit to make sure that I became Teacher of the Year for my school. I'm still in shock over that.

My principal paid a visit to me and he (socially-distancing style) congratulated me, gave me a banner, and gave me a bouquet. It was the absolute highlight of my week (which is an understatement-- it's the highlight of my first full year as a teacher).

After he gave me my banner, I came inside and went back to my Zoom CAT meeting while the banner sat beside me on my four-year-old's Toy Story bed.

However, this blog is continuing on because I refuse to rest on my laurels and vanish into oblivion.

I'm back with a new post about how I'm taking attendance this week.

This week's Attendance Check

Before I go into detail, I want to thank my amazing mentor teacher, Elizabeth, for this idea. She came up with the thought and I opened up Photoshop to help make her genius idea something we could do this week.

I know you've seen those "Quarantine House" memes floating around on the internet. They list 5-10 different "houses" and you have to pick which one you'd prefer to spend a quarantine in.

They're fun and silly and we thought they would be a perfect start for our students' online school week.

Set up on Google Classroom

To use these memes as an attendance check, I created a Google Form that only has three questions.

  1. "What is your name?" (SHOULD ALWAYS BE QUESTION NUMBER ONE)
  2. The image with a dropdown that asks "Which house would you choose?"
  3. "Is there anything else you want to tell me?"
The finished form looks like this:

Will my kids think it's lame? Probably, but I'm excited to see which house ends up winning for each of my preps.

Until next time,

K. Hanlin

PS: THANK YOU SO MUCH TO MY COWORKERS FOR THE INCREDIBLE HONOR THEY HAVE BESTOWED UPON ME. Y'ALL ARE AMAZING AND I HOPE I CONTINUE TO HELP AND MAKE Y'ALL PROUD. YES, I AM YELLING IN ALL CAPS RIGHT NOW. LOVE YOU AND MEAN IT!
